Groningen Guitar lab
Groningen Guitar Lab isn’t just a music school. It’s a real lab for exploring the guitar and everything that comes with it: technique, sound, theory, improvisation, composition and the craft of playing with other musicians.
The lab is built on two pillars: formal musical education and real-world professional experience. I studied jazz guitar at the Gnessin College of Jazz in Moscow (2012–2016) and at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen (2021–2025), learning from players like Peter Bernstein, Mike Moreno and Jonathan Kreisberg. Alongside that, I’ve spent years as a working musician: leading my own bands, touring with my jazz quartet playing original music, and performing internationally as a show band guitarist on major stages around the world. Originally from Rostov-on-Don, it was music that brought me all the way to the Netherlands.
At the lab, the focus is on real musicianship, built through hands-on work on your instrument, guitar or bass. Every student gets a path shaped around their own goals, whether that’s rhythm or lead playing, rock, metal, pop or jazz, playing by ear, or understanding the theory behind the music you love. Heavy riffs and overdriven tone get explored here just as seriously as jazz harmony.
Today the lab has more than 12 students, and together we’re building a real community, with a shared WhatsApp group where everyone posts their progress and regular in-person meetups. You can follow some of their journeys below.
Lessons are 60 minutes, in person in Groningen or online via Google Meet, in English or Russian.
